Assignment 10 - Twitter

Twitter seems like a convenient method of transferring short pieces of information from person to person.  The concept is very similar to facebook status updates, except that twitter doesn't have many of the additional social features.

Assignment 8 - Online Productivity Tools

I can see that they will replace software versions with the online office productivity tools. It seems very logical to have a central site for all your documents, because it's accessible from any computer. Not only do you have an automatic online backup of all your files, but sharing of those documents is made much easier.

Assignment 7 - Flickr and Youtube

I found Flickr and Youtube to be self-explanatory and very user friendly. The tour makes it easier to understand what Flickr is all about, and it seems like a very useful service for sharing photos with your friends and family. Youtube is easy to search on, and they have a diverse range of information on the website.

Assignment 6 - RSS

I was able to set up my RSS feed, and I added websites to it without difficulty. I can see myself using this feature in the future, it makes getting updates much more convenient.

Assignment 5 - Google Universe

I investigated Google Docs for my assignment this week. One thing I found quite useful about it was the instantaneous save feature, because that would ensure your written document wouldn't get lost even if your computer crashed. Google docs would be very useful for people needing to use multiple computers, because it makes the file available online without the need for email or flash drives. I really wasn't able to find anything negative about it at this point and I would definitely recommend Google Docs to other people.

In looking at all the google products I also became curious as to what the Picasa program did. I downloaded it and right away it prompted me that it would find all my pictures and consolidate them in one place. It has a very intuitive interface and organizational system, with cool features like face recognition and video rotating.

Assignment 4 - Social Networking

I think social networking sites have such a high level of popularity because they help to connect people together worldwide. They are certainly cheaper and a lot easier than the alternatives with providing detail about your life- ie. pictures and videos.

Assignment 3 - Wikipedia

I found it quite difficult to find Wikipedia articles with grammatical or factual errors in them. However, we do have to take these sites with a grain of salt because it is very easy for these articles to be inaccurate without us knowing it. Caution must be exercised when using this as a resource to obtain information, especially on topics we aren't completely familiar with. I found it very easy to make a change to an article that I read, and it makes sense why this is such a popular resource.

Assignment 2 - Delicious

The best websites function of delicious.com is quite intuitive, with an interface that allows the user to simply point and click to find the specific category they are looking for. I am quite comfortable with using the tagging portion, and would suggest people to get familiar with the tags as a method of streamlining your search.
